Merlot 101

what is the difference between a pino noir and a merlot wine?

  1. The grape. Pinot Noir is a difficult, moody grape to grow and requires warm days, cool nights. The reward for cultivating this grape is a smooth, rich, velvety (some would say "jammy", with lots of berry flavor) wine. Excellent with smoked or grilled salmon. Merlot is a bit bolder, doesn't require as much attention during growth and can offer a full, rich medium-bodied flavor. Holds up great with grilled steak.
  2. their two different type of grapes
  3. two different grapes. Pinot is typically lighter and fruitier. Merlot is a bit more on the dry side. Both are very hard to find really good ones. You can find great Pinots in Oregon or california central coast. Merlot, haven't found a really great one in sometime and has a bad rap from the movie.
