  1. Merlot is a dry red wine. I like it. Cabernet Savignon is another dry red.
  2. I enjoy the regular Merlot, as I find the white Merlot to be a bit sweet for my taste. I do have to say that Merlot is a great sipping wine. Be sure to serve white Merlot at 45 degrees F and Merlot at room temp. Cheers!
  3. Merlot for a long time was never a varietal wine and was used in the great wines of Bordeaux as one of the blending grapes along with cabernet and cabernet franc. It became popular as a varietal about 15 years ago. It is medium bodied and not as tannic and dry as cabernet. Of course white merlot is merlot with the skin removed, so this won't be as dry as the regular merlots. Drinking wines to get drunk seems like a waste of good money, so go for the trader joes 2 buck chuck if your goal is to get drunk. Wines are compliments to food and conversation, but it's your choice. The higher the alcohol content in wines, around 14%, the faster you get there because the alcohol content is directly related to each ounce you consume, unlike a mixed drink. If you're up all night you probably won't care after the first and maybe the second bottle anyway. Have fun!!
  4. If you are wondering how red Merlot tastes as opposed to the white (it's a little unclear from your question), it's Like apples and oranges. The Merlot grape is red, and when it is fermented with the skins along with the flesh of the grape, the pigments in the skin produce a red wine which has a nice fruity character accompanied by the dry and astringent "tannins" which kind of make you want to pucker up a little if you are not used to them (otherwise they are quite pleasant). A white Merlot is fermented without the skins much like a blanc de noir champagne which is a white sparkling wine made from the white flesh of a red grape (pinot noir). Anyway, go out and get yourself a red Merlot in a price range around $8-$12 as long as it's recommended by your local merchant and you should be O.K. Cheers!!
