Merlot wine. What does it look, smell and taste like.?

  1. Looks like Chianti. Smells like Cabernet. Tastes like Pinot Noir, but not as fruity.
  2. All I can say is Merlot is a red wine. There are going to be some that are sweeter and some that are more dry (makes your mouth kinda pucker).
  3. Merlot is a traditional blending grape. It brings a lot of fruit and a rich flavor. It is deep red and smells slightly floral. It is smooth and dry. the main drawback is that it does not have a lot of backbone like cabernet does that's why the french have long blended these. By the way it tastes nothing like a pinot noir. 4. It ranges from a dark purple to a medium-dark crimson. It can smell like vinegar, cherry, berries, earth, and green peppers, or some combination of these. At its best, it tastes like fruit (but not sweet), earth, and smoke. At it's worst...it tastes like vinegar or overly sweet jug wine.
  5. It tastes like all of those things in previous answers. It is a gorgeous color but the smell is a bit on the fruity/ vinegar side. I have tried several kinds and have yet to like any. Which is so strange because Merlot is the only red wine I will cook or bake with. Coppolla Merlot to be exact.
