Merlot 101

What is a good red wine that I could buy from a major store chain such as Kroger and Meijer? ?

I am trying to find a good, consistent red wine that I can buy from any major store that is $10 or under. I do not like sweet wines, so any grape type suggestions are good. I have tried Beringer Merlot which I did not like, and I tried Estancia Cabernet which was decent. Any other suggestions?

1. Try Barefoot Cellars, the best wines for 2008 - won lots of awards!
2. Kendall Jackson or even Robert Mondavi Cabernets may be worth a try....we don't have Meijer/Kroger in Texas...so it's a guess
