would a 2002 grgich hills Merlot be considered a good collectible wine?

I have a 2002 Grgich Hills Merlot and was wondering if it's considered a good collectible wine. And would it be worth anything like in 10 years?

  1. Hi There Baby, Wine Spectator gave the 2002 Grgich Hills Merlot 82 points and says that it's a "drink now". This typically means that the wine will not hold up in the cellar and should be consumed within a year after marketing. If it were mine, I'd enjoy it over a nice pasta dinner in the next few months. : )
  2. 2002 wasn't a bad year nor was it a great year for red wine in the region. Ratings from publications are subjective (remember, wineries and companies pay for advertising in those publications, so why wouldn't they receive a decent rating) but I'd say from experience that I wouldn't hold on to the bottle for much longer. It is a drier type of wine, so it will hold up a little longer. I'd enjoy it with a nice steak and share it with someone within the next year or so. Hope this is helpful.
