Good Merlots Knowledge Base
Red wine suggestions for various price ranges? I'm a novice wine drinker. I've found that I like Merlot's the best because, in my limited experience, they're the least sweet. I really like Ecco Domani, Mezzacorona, and Cellar No. 8 (I think that's a Berringer wine, but I'm not sure). I would love some suggestions of good merlots in various price ranges and some other less sweet reds. An under $20, under $50, and under $250 suggestion would be most appreciated. As well as which regions are known to have better reds, if certain years are better than others, or any other tips that a novice would benefit from.
Good brand of Merlot that's inexpensive? I love Merlots but have a hard time finding any that are not really expensive but are still nice and smooth. Any suggestions for a good vinter? I like them fruity, not dry.
Good Italian wine in the $25-50 range? I need a Christmas present for my father. He likes Italian food, or generally anything with lots of tomatos, basil, and olive oil, and he likes robust wines that go with that sort of thing. Examples would be Coppola Rosso (a relatively inexpensive table wine), Seghesio zinfandel, Ravenswood zindfandel, and many Washington State merlots -- notably Canoe Ridge. Hedges CMS is another favorite. I'd like to get him a really good Italian wine like many of those I mentioned are imitating, a Barolo or Barbaresco probably, but I'm relatively ignorant about them. I would welcome specific suggestions, but I'm also interested in general information -- what vintages are good, etc. The ideal wine would be Italian, under $50, and full-bodied and complex without being overpowering.
I have begun collecting wines but don't drink wine, have a question? I have begun collecting celebrity wines such as Marilyn Merlot, etc. I have read that Merlots are not meant to go left unconsumed any more than 8-10 years after creation Some of the wines I am collecting are not intended to go left unconsumed anymore than 2 years My question is, since I don't plan on ever opening or drinking them, will the wine still be valuable and taste good if I plan on selling it in 20 years, assuming I store them under the correct conditions? Thanks
What winery makes the best wine in Texas? I only found one that is passable and it is actually pretty good...it is Becker Winery. Is there any wines out of Texas that is better than Becker Winery? My experience has been that Texas wines were crap until I tried Becker Cabs and Becker Merlots. So again, is Becker the best wine from Texas or is there better?
What are some good, sweet red wines? I am supposed to drink 2 glasses of red wine a day--doctor's orders. I'm not a big drinker so, I need some suggestions. I like sweet wines usually--I like Port and back in the day drank a wine called Lambrusco--it was good to my taste buds. More recently, traveling through wine country there were a few Shiraz/Syrahs, Merlots and I think it was called Sangioveses I liked but, I don't remember which ones. I didn't know it was going to be prescribed or I would have paid more attention
What is the shelve life of Merlot and Beaujolais? I recenly was given a box of old wine. The Merlots are from 1998. The Beaujolais is from 1984. Could these still be ok to drink. Obviously other red wines get better with age, I'm not sure about the latter ones. Any help could be appreciated.
For the wine drinkers? Can anyone suggest good RED wine? Not really into Merlots,it's a bit dry but something more than Zinfandel.
Dessert Merlot's/red wines? Usually for dessert wines I go for whites like Riesling or Port but I'm trying to get a good dessert red. Are there any good dessert Merlots out there? Any suggestions?

Wine advice? I'm a little picky about wines. Well, actually I'll be more honest & say that I really don't know much about them at all. I like the sweeter wines such as blackberry merlots & dessert wines, but I want to broaden my tastes. I'm currently on a medication (INH) that won't allow me to imbibe any alcohol, so I'm planning on having a nice bottle of wine to celebrate not having to choke down that horrid medication when I'm finally finished taking it in a few months. Any suggestions? I've got a bottle of wine at home that is a rose wine (Anime) that I picked up because it is a gorgeous pink color. I read reviews of other rose wines & found that rose wine isn't really popular. What type of wine do you think would taste good? I do like a wine with character & I also like a nice woodsy flavor in it. (In other words, I like to be able to taste something in the wine other than alcohol.) I'm also open to suggestions along similar themes of wine type drinks if you have any.
I have a few wine questions. Please help me, I'm a newbie.? I’m a newbie to the wine world. I’ve always loved to drink it but just now getting into learning more about it. I have a few questions. I have begun to accumulate a few bottles, thus far relying on the recommendations of friends and people who work at the liquor store. If I want to “age” my wine (I drink almost exclusively red wine) how do I know how long to keep it and when to drink it? For example, do cabernets, merlots, syrahs, etc., all age at the same rate or may one reach its premium in three years and the other ten? Further, does this extend to cheap versus expensive wine? In other words, in order to get any “benefit” from aging one’s wine does it already have to be of a fairly high quality or will cheaper wine taste better if you let it age for a year or two after purchasing as well?
How long does a good merlot take to make? Im sixteen and have no clue about wine. Merlot is my nickname for football because my coaches are saying that, like a fine wine, I get better with time. So Im just trying to figure out how long they think its gonna take me.
What is a good cheap red wine to purchase? I was wondering what good red wine I could buy that is under $10 Canadian?. You know that kind you can get at a supermarket or at your local Wine merchant. I don't like Merlot, and I want something light and fresh so it doesn't taste too strong. Any ideas?
Good recipe with chicken leg quarters & Merlot/Marsala? I need a new recipe for dinner. My husband and I eat A LOT of chicken, and the same old combinations of chicken and rice, chicken and noodles, baked/broiled chicken are getting boring. I also have some wine I need to use up. Does anyone have a good recipe using chicken leg quarters and Merlot or Marsala?
Any suggestions for some good wine that isnt very expensive? I usually get my wine at HEB, and I've had some good wine there, but I dont know very much about the different brands, and which ones are good. I like red wine. It doesnt matter too much what kind it is as long as its good. I like shiraz, merlot, cabernet, etc... I would probably consider inexpensive wine between $5-15. You can suggest some more expensive wines if they are really good though.
What is a good wine to enjoy in the evening without food? My fiance and I sit back and enjoy a bottle of wine in the evening, from time to time. Is there a good wine to enjoy without food for this reason? We like pinot grigio, but merlot was too dark. I'm wondering if there is something else. Thanks!
What's a good website that gives me the differences between the types of wine? I'm a very big fan of wine and I've try to get my hands on as many types as I can.. I'm still trying to find my favorites: I love white wine: riesling is so good as a dessert wine.. but too much makes me sick. Chardannay is really tasty. I'm trying to love red wine: Merlot is as far as I go. Any suggestions on websites? Or personal favorites?
How long does opened wine stay good? My roomates and I have a bottle of Merlot with the cork missing. It has been sitting on our dining room table for approximately 1 week. Is it still good to drink, or has it in effect gone "bad" by now?
What is a good beginner's wine for a spaghetti dinner? We tried Cabernet with steak the other night, and HOLY MOLY did it taste strong. So we were asking around, and people advised us to start with easy-to-drink wines, namely Chardonnay and Merlot. I'm making spaghetti, will Merlot go with it?? If not, what is a good beginner's wine that goes with it??? I looked it up on the internet, and all I can find are suggestions of Dry Italian red wines, have no idea what to buy. Thanks!
Can anyone recommend a really good alcohol-free red wine? Prior to being pregnant there was nothing I liked more than a nice glass of Shiraz or Merlot wine. Now I have vowed not to drink any alcohol for the full 9 months (and if I breastfeed too) I have been looking for a good substitution. Fruit juices don't hit the spot and I've been looking at alcohol-free reds. Can anyone personally recommend a particular brand? Thanks! There are plenty of alcohol free reds out there - http://www.alcoholfree.co.uk/index.php?cPath=2_46_14&osCsid=ea9791afbbc28c54b01bb2dc87180a68 and drinking the real stuff is not an option! I will not drink while pregnant! ;-) Thanks for the "helpful" answer Pelayo. I am well aware that there are bad alcohol free wines on the market, hence my question. I usually drink very good quality wines so if there's not a good one out there I will remain tee total while pregnant.
How do you know if the wine is a good one? I need to buy some merlot from Safeway (Vons), they have prices starting at $5.99 up & I'm buying this to cook with mainly. I'd love to get away just paying the $5 but I'm sure that's some crappy wine. How do you know it simply a good wine for a great price? Are there any known brands these stores carry that are good but won't break the bank?
Does anyone have any good wine recommendations? I am not an avid wine drinker because I find most wine to be too dry or bitter. Does anyone have any good wine recommendations? I'm looking for a wine (either red or white) that is fresh, light, sweet or fruity. I don't like wines like merlot. Any suggestions? Thanks for your recommendations! I prefer bottles under $20, if possible but I'm not sure if I can get a good bottle for that price.
2 part question-I am looking for a really good Merlot and a wine.? Do you have to drink an aged Merlot to get the best taste? They say it's suppose to taste fruity but every single one i have tried is nasty to my taste. How do I find one that is really good? Also, every time I want to throw a party, I can never find a good wine. I hate the tangy taste that it has. What is a good one and does it have to be aged also?
A good wine for a Thanksgiving gift? I am leaving to go out of state to stay with a friend and her family for the Thanksgiving Holiday. My friend's parents each like different wines. Her mother likes Pino Grigio and her father likes Merlot or Cabernet. Can you recommend a good one to take as a Hostess Gift for them? I appreciate your help.
What is the name of a good wine? My husband has read that drinking one glass a day of a Merlot will help cure him of his cancer. As his wife I will go along with his belief. Can anyone recommend a good wine. I don't drink and have seen wines from $1.50/bottle -$90/bottle.He said it has to be a merlot.
What is a recommended good merlot? I know nothing about wines but my boyfriend has mentioned that he likes merlot. I want to surprise him for his birthday by buying him a bottle, but I would like for it to be vintage. Can anyone suggest a brand and year of merlot that is highly recommended for avid wine connoisseurs?
how long is red wine good for after it opened and left with cork pushed back in? I need a glass of wine badly right now. All the booze stores are closed. I have a bottle of merlot, opened about 10 days ago, left on the shlf with the cork stuck back in it. Is it safe to still drink? I'm sure it might be a little bitter, but is it safe? Will I be running to the bathroom a few hours later if I drink it?
Merlot in the freezer, is it still good? I was stupid enough to put a bottle of merlot in the freezer (I know, I know) and the cork popped out. My question is should I throw it away, or is it still drinkable?
Is a Chateau Ste Michelle 1998 wine good with chicken? Quick! I'm trying to prepare a nice dinner for my boyfriend tonight & I've got a bottle of Chateau Ste Michelle 1998 Columbia Valley Merlot wine on hand. Will it go well with a creamy baked chicken & rice dish? I know most say that white wine goes well with chicken but I want to explore other options before having to go shopping. Thanks for your answers.
How to get a good wine? My husband and I have never really drank any alcohol. Recently we have been interested in finding a nice wine to enjoy once in a while. Problem is everything we have tried tastes like gasoline! So far we have tried Merlot, Chardonnay and a Strawberry Zinfandel. I would like something kind of sweet and fruity. But everything so far has been bitter and icky (for lack of a better word).
Can anyone recommend a good Merlot? I"m new to drinking wine... I'm looking for a tasty one in the $15 - $30 range, but I don't know where to start. Help would be appreciated.

What is a good dry MERLOT? .....not necessarily to go with food (but feel free to suggest as well!)........but mostly to be enjoyed on its own. I've noticed my wine bar is practically vacant, no wonder why I feel so good.
Is this wine still good? I was clearing out my closet and found a few bottles of wine that I probably have for a couple of years. I was wondering if they would be good to drink. this is what I have: Beringer, White Merlot 2001 (California) Black Oak, Fume Blank Vintage 2003 (California) Barossa Peter Lehmann GSM 2003 (Australia) I think the last one was around $50 when I bought it 3 years ago. They were in box in my closet all the time, which is dark and cool. If anyone knows more about wine and if those would still be good to open and drink, please let me know. Thanks
Are any of these wines good with fish and steak? "dinner wines?"? Here is a list of wines - I know they serve them at this club I go to in NYC, can you tell me if they are any good with steak and a fish entrees aka "dinner wines?" I need a red wine and white wine - I'm not a wine drinker. TY. Moet & Chandon, Brut Imperial Rose Moet & Chandon, White Star White Zinfandel Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon i don't drink wine but I agree people should drink whatever they like, however, i'm having a wedding. That's why I needed one white wine and one red one - I guess one for meat, one for fish entrees. I don't know what everyone likes but I needed one of each that MOST would like. TY.
